Wednesday, April 26, 2023, during the fourth stage of the MDC, the French crew composed of Patrice Garrouste and Laurent Lichtleuchter (#237) suffered an accident involving another vehicle. Despite the intervention of the doctor who arrived very quickly by helicopter, the co-pilot Laurent Lichtleuchter passed away on the spot. Pilot Patrice Garrouste was taken to hospital to treat his injuries.
The whole rally-raid family is affected by this tragedy. At 46, Laurent was a particularly appreciated professional co-pilot in this world where he had made a name for himself and he had many friends. His talent has taken him to the biggest rallies in the world with 15 participations in the Dakar including 2 victories in T2. Whether it was for Toyota Auto Body where he was official co-driver, or smaller teams for which he liked to share his experience, Laurent was always ready to get involved in both human and sporting adventures.
Organizer Gert Duson and the entire MDC family send their deepest condolences to his wife and children.
