Today, Thursday April 27, 2023 disaster struck again. 48-year old Dutch motorbike rider Bram van der Wouden (#110) succumbed to the heat and exhaustion. Other participants found him lying next to his motorbike. Bram presumably stopped to rest. The medical intervention team arrived very quickly but there was nothing more they could do.
Again, the world of rally-raid loses a dear friend. For Bram it was his first Morocco Desert Challenge, competing in the Malle Moto category. Rally-raid and his self-built Sherco motorbike were his true passion. He already participated in a number of rally’s such as the Heroes Legend, the Breslau rally and the Africa Eco Race. In 2022 he realised his long term dream by participating in the Dakar rally but had to retire early due to a crash. This MDC was part of his preparation for the next Dakar. Bram was highly appreciated in the world of rally raid, always happy to help where possible. He leaves behind a lot of friends in the bivouac and far beyond.
Organizer Gert Duson and the entire MDC family send their deepest condolences to his wife and daughters.
