In 2027, the Morocco Desert Challenge is reintroducing the Vintage category: a full-fledged rally competition for historic rally cars and trucks that are at least 20 years old, including a separate category for vehicles over 30 years old. This is not a regularity event with imposed average speeds, but a genuine race classification in which iconic rally vehicles can shine once again.
Vintage vehicles follow the same basic route as the other race categories, but cover a course that is approximately 20% shorter. The toughest dune sections and most extreme tracks are removed from their route. Particularly difficult passages are shortened or bypassed via an alternative route.
This preserves the challenge of a true rally-raid, with fast tracks, technical sections, sand and demanding navigation, while respecting the age and technical capabilities of these historic vehicles. Naturally, participants benefit from the same professional organisation, extensive safety provisions and unique bivouac atmosphere as all other race categories.
